Professional Experience
Paul joined PKF in June 2019 after 22 years with a Top 10 firm in Bristol where he qualified as a chartered Tax Adviser, gaining experience of working with businesses of varying sizes from start-ups and owner-managed businesses through to large corporates. He heads up our Bristol office and this position involves coordinating the offering of our specialist tax, accounts, audit, corporate finance and other services, as well as being responsible for implementing the firm’s growth strategy in the local marketplace – a challenge he relishes.
As well as the office role, Paul’s primary works as a Client Partner, overseeing the tax function, ensuring the delivery of high quality advice and services to new and existing clients. His own client base is predominantly in the wider Somerset, Bath and Bristol area but there are also a number further afield, including several large London and South East-based corporates.
Paul specialises in corporate tax and has several significant clients, including AIM-listed businesses, but he also has a keen interest in looking after the tax affairs of owner-managers. In several cases he supports the third generation of some well-known local clients, having looked after the business and personal affairs of parents, children and now grandchildren over a 30-year period.
Working closely with our Business Services team, Paul also leads our Bristol full back office and compliance outsourcing offering to larger clients, such as subsidiaries or listed companies where group auditors are conflicted from such work, and heads up the Bristol Property and Construction Group. His team’s work involves CIS Gross Payment and Employment Status challenges from HMRC, together with advising those seeking technical assistance or guidance around property matters, such as structuring and capital allowances.
Paul has been a regular speaker at networking events and industry seminars and has written numerous taxation articles published by local and national press. He is married with two teenage children and lives in Keynsham, on the outskirts of Bristol.
As a keen sports fan, when time and family permit he can be found at local football grounds around the South West, supporting the local non-league club that he played for and now helps out on a voluntary basis.
