VAT makes for a lot of unhappy campers

A recent ruling from the UK VAT Tribunal means that it won’t just be the wet English summer that upsets campers this year.
Buoyant April for UK hoteliers

UK hoteliers’ recorded robust levels of growth in April with both occupancy and room rate consistently high across the country, according to preliminary monthly figures released today by PKF Hotel Consultancy Services. In contrast to March, where the early Easter break meant a decline in business travellers compared to 2007, it was the 2007 Easter break which meant the figures for April 2008 were so buoyant.

Company Administrations Rocket

The latest statistics from The Insolvency Service reveal that the number of companies being forced into either Administration or Receivership by their creditors has rocketed.

Insolvency experts at PKF point out that the Government figures for the first quarter of 2008 show that the number of Administrations rose to 858, 54.0% higher than the previous quarter and 22.7% above the same period in 2007. The number is the second highest quarterly figure since the Enterprise Act of 2002 changed the rules governing Administrations.
