Biography
Ian Mills, senior partner at PKF

Ian joined PKF in 1978 as a tax consultant, rising to become senior tax partner in the Manchester office in 1983. In 2005 he was made senior partner for the national firm.

Ian is an expert in all aspects of business and personal tax relating to owner managed businesses, listed companies and their shareholders. His expertise includes international tax issues relating to non-UK resident individuals and groups.

As a former Inspector of Taxes at the Inland Revenue, Ian is ideally qualified to negotiate with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and has a wealth of experience dealing with contentious appeals before both General and Special Commissioners. He is also well-versed in both civil and criminal HMRC investigations.

A former business news presenter on BBC Greater Manchester, Ian is one of PKF’s key media spokespeople ,and frequently gives lectures on taxation subjects. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and was also President of the Manchester Society of Chartered Accountants in 1997/98.

As an expert witness, Ian has worked on tax-related litigation in civil proceedings, including professional misconduct, commercial and fraud cases. He has also provided evidence in Court and assisted in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
